Grown Up Art

September 15, 2013

I've always kind of side-eyed art. I've even gone so far as to say that I don't like art. As I grow up, though, I'm realizing that that's not true. While I still may not "get" a lot of art, I can now at least admit when I appreciate a piece, even though I might not find some deeper meaning in it.

The living room is looking pretty stark with it's freshly painted white walls and trim, and with it's 9 foot ceilings, something is definitely going to need to fill in the expanse above the couch. I'm a terrible shopper, and since I have no idea where you might find affordable art in person, I'm happy to discover that you can find an array of art online.

Here are some examples of what I like...whether they go with what I'm throwing together in the living room is another matter entirely.

I'm especially fond of the last one...it sort of reminds me of home. I guess that's the point. To feel something when you look at it, whatever that may be.

I have great news for you...research has shown that even serious art collectors tend to rely on aesthetics alone to determine their appreciation of art. It's not that they're smarter or deeper or anything. They just like the colors or whatever!

Oh, I like knowing that! I always thought I was uncultured, haha.
We haven't put anything up in our new house yet. Stuff went up all willy nilly in the last house and I hated it! I'm determined not to do that this time around.
These are gorgeous. I especially love the first one, but I have a weakness for trees. :)

Love the last one too- such pretty colours! I have a hard time finding art as well- although there are a lot of pieces I like at Urban Barn. Not sure if you have one of those near you. I know there's one in Cambridge but not sure about any closer than that. It's pretty affordable too (I mean it's still pricey for me the cheapo but I've invested in a piece from there) and they often feature Canadian artists which is a big plus in my eyes! A lot of the pieces are really big and oversized too which is great when you have a big space to fill!

There's an Urban Barn in Barrie I think, I'll have to check it out!
I know this is an old post but I have to comment because I am the same way!! I can APPRECIATE art, but I am clueless when it comes to artists/what is good 'art'. My boyfriend's mom is the curator of a local art gallery so their family is ALL about art and I am so out of the loop at dinners haha. Glad I'm not the only one!!
If one have to check the level of education in other people, we can just test that individual by the type of nature and his/her attitude with the people of lower standard and all the manner he follow in his/her daily routines, because this is how educated person present him/her self.
It is very good for the country that the woman’s are educated in the society. Because woman does can make a difference in the society the woman’s can make their country proud and can make a developed country.
