Frivolous Friday!

Hinges can be beautiful.

Yes, a totally mundane, necessary piece of hardware can be stunning.

And I want some.

Big, intricate, steeple tipped hinges.

But at $20 per hinge and up, it's not really in the cards. Sometimes I wish our simple farmhouse had of been built with a little more flair, and that we had some of these babies kicking around like so many other lucky old house owners.

I'm not giving up hope, however. I will continue to browse antique and salvage stores (online and in real life) looking for the elusive reasonably priced Victorian hinge!

  1. Hi Ashley

Are you near Toronto? I bought some reproduction hinges somewhat similar to the ones in your first picture last year at The Door Store on Castlefield in Toronto. They were pretty reasonable - something like $7 a pair, if I remember correctly.

  2. I'm nearish to Toronto - about an hour or so away. I'll have to check it out one day! Thanks for the tip.

  3. I'm even having a hard time finding just the plain 3x3 hinges with finial tips. The best I could find were Stanley at 7$ per hinge. I need at least 7 matching pairs.

For vintage hinges, try eBay (you might need to troll around on it for months, but bargains do turn up).
